To become a Web Developer
Before HerTechTrail I had engaged in other computer enhancement skills and web design trainings to learn and improve on my Tech skills. I knew I needed to Upskill myself in regards to Tech, so I decided to work on it. While in school we were a little brushed up on our computer skills and IC3 knowledge, but after that I enrolled in a training for Tech skills. The first one was sponsored by PIND (Partnership Innovations in the Niger Delta) for individual who were from Niger Delta states. I learnt a lot but as a result of the time frame we could only afford to learn basic HTML and little of CSS. Later on, I bought courses in the Udemy Platform and I did benefit a lot, but learning alone can be so tiresome.
HerTechTrail
When I was told about this online course, to be honest I had my doubts but I followed my Tech instincts as one could say. I enrolled and was accepted and I was thrilled and curious to see what it will be like. After the whole entry process the classes started as soon as we were shared into groups depending on our chosen course. Coaches were assigned and we were lucky to have our first coach to be Miss Princess Magdalene Edozie. She was a blessing in disguise, she helped us go through the first phases of our learning which were HTML, CSS and Git. Our second Coach Miss Broma Elenwo was introduced to us as the person who will take us on the other phases of the learning process- Bootstrap and Java Script.
Learning Process and RoadBlocks
Having a Basic Knowledge of HTML and CSS, understanding the first part of the course was quite easy, but paying rapt attention helped me increase in my knowledge and become better, to the point of having some HTML syntax in my head at all times ๐.
Git and Git Hub was a new thing to me, so I deeply appreciate this aspect of the learning process. I saw the importance of Git in my codes and the simplicity it added to everything, it was just wow!
Bootstrap and Java Script was also new to me and to be honest, I had some difficulties and I'm still having some, but because of the provision of accountability groups, I was able to get help and hope to get more help in the future.
The recorded classes were also a plus for me, because on some days when I couldn't fully participate in the class as a result of my location or network and battery issues, I had the comfort of a recorded class. The recording helped me with something to go back to when facing Challenges.
As I had said before, Network was one of my biggest Roadblocks, the second being the slow response of my PC ๐ฉ. I felt like breaking it sometimes, because all effort to put it in order went up in a smoke. So I made a mental note to change it as soon as I have the financial means. It even affected my Portfolio Project Submission along with the issue of Nigerian Electricity. Not giving up and seeing the bigger picture ahead helped me move through all these storms to get to where I am today.
I hope and know I won't stop here, HerTechTrail has built me up to be a successful Junior Web Developer. On my own, with their foundation, I'll strive to be a successful Senior Web Developer.
One of my biggest regrets was not participating in the 15-day Code Challenge. Not out of choice though, but my PC was completely out of use during that period, I could only join classes with my phone. But I have promised myself to still participate in it anyways and add it to my Portfolio page on my website.
Finally, I want to give a big shout out to my Coaches and To HerTechTrail Academy for giving me and other lovely ladies this Golden opportunity. I deeply appreciate with all my heart and I promise to use this skills I've learnt in a way that benefits both myself and others. ๐๐
